Learning about the SAMR model and all the options we have for incorporating technology into our classrooms got me so excited for all the possibilities I have ahead of me. As a future PE teacher I haven't spent much time thinking about the use of technology in my curriculum. However through out lesson about SAMR and exploring other teachers' lessons plans I now have a few ideas, and am truly excited about how I can implement technology for my students.
One idea I had already played with was using wearable technology in the PE setting. This could be as inexpensive and rudimentary as pedometers, but could also be as high tech as more complex Fitbit/Jawbone/Garmin type fitness trackers. Using a more high tech fitness tracker would truly benefit my students at the Redefinition level. Students would not only be able to track their steps, but they would get to track their heart rate, calorie intake and expenditure, sleep, and sedentary activity time, all in real time. This information would help them determine if their level of health and wellness, compare to national data, and set goals for activity, sleep, and other various improvements to their daily lives. This technology opens so many doors to help motivate students on an intrinsic level to live a healthy lifestyle, and takes PE outside of the school building so that students are living it on a daily basis - one of our goals as PE teachers!
