I chose this image because it was not so rigid with the way it defines the SAMR. I think there is some overlap for sure especially when you come around to Modification and Redefinition. For my SAMR lesson I have decided to take a new approach to the Student Lead Conference. In the hopes I will be in a One-to-One classroom, I will have the students begin building examples of their work through out the year. This will include all digital content and scanned traditional paper type work, images of projects, videos they have created during group and individual projects, reflection notes/videos - basically all of their work Next the students will create a presentation of this work. They will need to analyze and explain what they have learned, reflect on what went well, what did not go so well, why, and what they want to work on in the future. This method also allows the student to show off their technology skills learned throughout the school year in a way that talking about them just does not demonstrate. The presentation will be 20 minutes in length - they can use slides, video, images, voice over, music, interviews - anything. Then the video will be played for the parents at the conference followed up by a dialogue between student, parent and teacher.I believe this takes the "modified" Parent-Teacher conference in which the student was added and bumps it in to the Redefinition level. The students are creating and evaluating their work in a way that involves technology and will have this digital copy as a reference in the future. They are also reflecting on the process of the developing the presentation its self.
My hope is two fold...I need a district who is preferably One-to-One, and is not so rigid in their definition of conferences.
Love this as a modified parent teacher conference!
ReplyDeleteAlso will be a good review of the work for students. Putting this presentation together that covers what they have learned over the year will require them to recall their work and lock it into their memory. Great idea!

ReplyDeleteErin,
ReplyDeleteThis is an absolutely brilliant idea! By having the students participate in their conference at this level, it is really allowing them to be an advocate in their own learning. At the same time it is showcasing a timeline of their work, self reflections and technology skills. To really succeed with this you need a supportive district. I really hope that their is more out there than we think because we could do some great things!
Knowing what you want in a district and school is important! They are not all governed the same and have the same idea on what is "best for kids". If you know how to teach in a 1:1 environment and want to teach in that environment then I know there are schools looking for you!
