Connectivism is a stance on learning which believes that our access to information is more important than what we already know. Connectivists also emphasize that decision-making and sorting incoming information are key components to the learning process. While I do believe that it is important to be teaching students up-to-date information, I do not think that the sole purpose of learning is to simply educate students on how to find the answer on their own. Although students may never need to know some of the curriculum that we have in place, it is still important for students to become acquainted to the process of learning and discovering through preset curriculum.
Connectivism will significantly impact education because it will cause students and educators to question the value of the information we are teaching to our students. Why would we teach students information that will just become outdated two years from now? I think that education needs to teach foundational concepts as well as equip students to learn on their own because the information around them will constantly be shifting. As educators, we need to model how to learn information through the current curriculum and then give students the skills they will need to succeed in the real world.
