Hello readers!
Today offered a new idea for me to conceptualize as I embark on my professional career. I've never thought or heard of SAMR before this class. At first, I didn't see how it was applicable to my content area of English, but when I was reviewing videos of other teachers, I saw how this could be implemented in the classroom. Connectivism is key to success within the classroom and it just adds to the tricks that the teacher can use pedagogically to improve classroom engagement and overall learning for students.
SAMR model offers a lot for curriculum shake-up when it comes to one-on-one device instruction. As we approach our classrooms, we must take into consideration the incoming students perspectives on technology. If we can appropriately implement technology in the class curriculum, then we've successfully connected with our students on a level that makes the most sense to them.
Technology in the classroom can be expensive, but it takes a creative mind to implement technology on a low budget. As we were going over the QR codes in class I thought of a way that QR codes could be implemented in a lesson plan. Student's could use the teachers QR reader on the class phone and go around the room scanning QR codes that will read certain lines of poetry from a Shakespearean sonnet. After obtaining all 14 lines, the student will have to re-write the poem in the correct order using traditional Shakespearean rhyme scheme (ABABCDCDEFEFGG). This lesson could promote movement throughout the classroom, all-while providing students with the ability to engage in technology that they may not have the funds for at home.
These past few days have been unreal! I cannot believe how little I know when it comes to what Google has to offer teachers in education. There are a lot of things that can make or break a lesson and if a teacher were to utilize technology that chance of error increases. However, the skills and understandings that have been presented through these lessons will be forever in the back of my mind as I embark on my first year of student teaching! I'm grateful to have taken this class and cannot wait how I can use technology in my future classrooms!
Cheers.

Get yourself connected to the right # on twitter and you'll find tons of ways to do really meaningful projects with kids. Not all with technology either. :) There is a community out there willing to help. You just have to find them and then engage with them. My book Reach will talk about this in more detail if you were able to download it.
