Technology in the classroom reflection
I like the idea of having my students connect with another class, same grade and subject, that are in another country. They can share and edit documents in realtime, Skype in for group lessons, and collaborate on a project. Using Google Docs, Skype, and other technology, takes a project like this to the redefinition stage in the SAMR model. I did not have the opportunity to collaborate on a global level in real time when I was in high school, so this truly is a redefined of group work for me. How cool will it be to have my students be part of an international project in high school? Very cool! This will force students to consider different perspectives, use the latin names of organisms (because other countries can have different names for animal), and use technology is a progressive way. These collaboration and tech skills will benefit students in academia and also in a variety of employment fields.

I agree. With all the technology that we learned about in the last two days, the possibilities for amazing lessons are at our fingertips!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of doing a science project with another country and the students having to use the latin names. Brilliant!
Wow Jacob, that sounds like such an amazing idea! Communicating with students from another country will also give students the opportunity to use technology by having to translate language readily. What a powerful message you can send to your students by telling them that language should not be a crutch or barrier to not reaching out and understanding others of another country! Love this idea!!! I think I could use this too with history, in order to gain a perspective of a global event from others outside of the US. As long as the time difference is not a problem then this would be amazing!
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
Jacob,
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of you using this technology to cross countries, may i suggest England as a potential place? I know peeps. Anyway, i am a big fan of collaboration so the idea of these ideas being generated and "opening of eyes" to increase a student's knowledge is brilliant.
Digital Pen-pals :) or sister classrooms along the line of the sister cities projects which were originally part of President Eisenhower's People to People initiative... I'm going to expand on this in my reflection and in my classroom! I was part of People to People for the last 10 years and look forward to getting this going!
ReplyDeleteGR8 idea Finch! I think this will certainly resonate with all of us :)
Info on the beginning of the Sister Cities project:
ReplyDeleteThe US sister city program formally began in 1956 when President Dwight D. Eisenhower proposed a people-to-people, citizen diplomacy initiative. Originally a program of the National League of Cities, Sister Cities International (SCI) became a separate corporation in 1967 due to the growth and popularity of the US program.[44] SCI is now a nonprofit citizen diplomacy network that creates and strengthens partnerships between communities in the US and other countries, organizes cultural exchanges, and provides support and funding. Under its administration, more than 2,000 cities, states and counties are partnered in 136 countries.[44][45]

Would love to start a Sister Classroom project as part of People to People :)
