During
Friday’s second half of the day, we discussed the SAMR (substitution,
augmentation, modification, and redefinition) model. Through exploration of these
levels, it was found that there are many creative
ways to incorporate this method into the classroom! After I watched several
videos of students incorporating the modification or redefinition levels into
projects in the classroom, I realized just how incredible the SAMR model really
is. It allows the students to use a new medium for their education and it seems as if they
really enjoy this process of learning!
A neat way that students can incorporate the redefinition model into the
classroom is during Language Arts. Instead of just writing an essay explaining how
to do something, the students can make individual or partnered videos
demonstrating how to do something. This would be on the far end of the SAMR
model (redefinition) because instead of simply writing an explanation paper,
the students can pair a video with it as a visual representation as well. It
takes their paper and makes it come to life!

Agreed! Check out Youtube for all the how-to videos created by kids in classrooms around the world.
