Visual literacy allows children to remember information better

Learning how to navigate twitter was something new to me. I used to have a twitter account in high school but ever since graduating, I never understood the point until today. Twitter can be used in education in many different ways. Being able to comment on students blogs is such an incredible way to boost a student’s self-confidence and connect them with people all over the world. Once I have a classroom, I would love to pick two or three students a week to place their work online so they are able to hear feedback from other people all over the world. It is one thing to be give feedback to your students as the teacher but I think it completely different for students to get feedback from complete strangers who took the time out of their lives to comment on the post.

“We remember 65% more when we attach an image to information- Rule #10”. Visual Literacy is a very important in the classroom. I just finished my first elementary education math course and he always talked about using concrete materials to begin lessons as students will be able to learn things better when they are able to associate pictures with the content. I plan to use visual literacy in my classroom to begin many lessons so they are able to get the concrete information from the lesson. Once the lesson is done, I think it would be very beneficial to go back and talk about what the photo means now, once the lesson is complete. Below, is an image from flickr of a shadow. One of the science lessons for 5th grade, has to do with the directions of the sun and the shadow it produces. I think this can be a great beginning point to talk about this picture and how the shadow occurred and then go from there.

I hope I copyrighted this correctly! I am not a pro at this and am still learning so I believe this is correct.
