Connecting through Technology

Before this course, I had mixed feelings about technology in a classroom. Although I have seen it in use by many teachers, I just wasn't feeling it, because many students go home to all of their technological devices and stay on them for long hours. However, after being in this course, I have a better understanding on how technology can be integrated in a classroom to help students reach the redefined level of the SAMR model and completely disregarding any use they have of technology at home. How can we help them learn in the classroom using technology?

Understanding the use of technology and being exposed to all of the amazing ways we could use the internet in classrooms, I have a better understanding of connectivism. This theory really explains how technology can help students in assisting them on their growing knowledge. Through technology students have many opportunities to learn, they can also share what they know and network with those around them.

I loved playing airplane as we navigated from site to site. I think this was a great technique that I will be practicing in my classroom. This allows students to not just help each other, but it gives them some sort of teacher role. This also gives students the opportunity to talk to each other, especially if they are the more quiet ones. Another great technique that I believe redefines connectivism was the chat room. Although we had some technical difficulties, and we will have these in the future, it was a great experience for those who were able to comment, to be able to put their own thoughts into the chat room. Learning is a continual process that will last a lifetime and it is interesting how technology plays a big role in this.
