Seeing how much our society today depends on blogs and vlogs, integrating flip grid into a classroom sounds like a great idea to me. Children from as little as 12-18 months (if not younger) are watching You Tube channels for entertainment at home. It amazes me how they get entertained by children and adults who play with toys, bake and create things. If they are being exposed to such vlogs, then why not create a similar atmosphere in your own classroom from as early as kindergarten. Kids already come into your classes knowing how to communicate and express themselves like the bloggers they watch. It gives them a sense of feeling cool that they too have blog channel.
Make flip grid a classroom activity where children can ask and answer questions or post a wonder. This can be done either together as a class or individually. Children will want to be a part of a vlog and if they are like my daughter, they love to pretend that they have a You Tube channel and they speak to an audience. I have seen kindergarteners record themselves on an app as they type in “popcorn” words and then read the words out loud. This allows themselves to see how much they have learned, and it also allows the teacher to see where they are at. (hint hint: formative assessment) If possible, parents and staff can be allowed to view and comment the children’s videos and posts, giving them positive feedback and encouragement.

Blogging gives children the ability to not just learn, but to be creative and speak out their thoughts and ideas. This allows students to practice coming out of their shells. I was never exposed to such thing and I truly do not like to record myself. I space out and I am super awkward. It was not an easy assignment to record myself reflecting on today's morning lecture. However, I think that if I were to have been exposed to such activities in my classrooms, I would have been used to doing such activities and I would not have an issue with looking into my camera and speaking to an audience.
