The second half of today’s class had my brain exploding with fireworks like it was 4thof July. Like what do you mean Wikipedia is a source we can rely on? So, you are telling me that when we search in google, we can specify what country’s point of view we want to hear the report from? Or that I can use filter syntax, so that google understands what I really want to read about? This is amazing to me. My eyes got bigger and bigger as I we learned to navigate google. I now want to read all the newspaper articles available to me, because we can see how our world has changed.

I have never been a fan of research papers, because there was so much reading and a lot of it had nothing to do with what I was researching. Articles would appear because they had the key words I would type just a few times or in a sentence. I really had to search for the "good" sites and "good" articles where I could get accurate information and that was time appropriate. If my teachers saw wikipedia as a great source where we can get even more sources, it would have made mine and others researching a lot easier and enjoyable.

Learning all of these great ways to research, gives us future teachers the power to teach the children that enter our classrooms about these tools that are available to them. Today’s generation relies so much on the internet that if you allow students to use what they know how to use, they will be more involved in your classroom. Allow them to explore and find how fun and useful it is to navigate these websites.
I like the idea of giving students the choice to research topics being studied based on their interests. It gives different points of view and it sparks creativity, improves their communication skills and confidence knowing that they understand and know more about the topic or lesson being taught.

Teaching students how to navigate websites and how to use apps such as google docs, prepares them for their future. I wish these features were taught to me when I was in at least high school. I would have felt more prepared when I went off to my higher education. Like hello Easybib. Where have you been my entire life?

I totally agree with you! My mind was blown by all the possibilities out there for research. There is more and more available everyday for us and our students to use to do research and to find credible sources. The first step is for us to know how to use these things so that we can teach out future students and I think you have a great grasp on the possibilities.
