"Our ability to learn what we need for tomorrow is more important than what we know today."
That quote really stuck with me. In this day in age of information coming in, adapting, and being thrown out within 18 months time or less means what we know isn't nearly as important as the skill of knowing how to know.
We need to emphasize the skills of learning more than the information the students are learning.
For PE this is difficult, because I need the kids to develop the fine motor skills needed to utilize technology - so that they can know how to know - but I also need kids to move because when they are using their TVs, computers, and their tablets they are sitting. We all do so much sitting these days. Sitting is the new smoking.
Though connectivism is extremely important - so are movement, fitness and health.
This two day class has made me realize how important it is to stay up to date on information and has taught me skills to do so. I will utilize these skills in my life, I will help students learn these skills in my health classes and I will continue to ponder how I can best use technology in a PE setting.
