Day 2 Reflection

I really enjoyed the fish bowl activity that we did in the beginning of today! It was interesting getting different opinions and perspectives on issues. I think it also helps build the classroom community. We all got to get to know each other a little more, and feel more comfortable sharing our thoughts. The only problem I saw with it was what we discussed in class, it was difficult to read and listen and type in my thoughts all at once when on the outside. I ended up just getting more distracted by the group chat conversation, so I missed out on a lot of what was said by the other group. However I believe that this problem would only lesson with practice of this activity. Once students got more used to it the whole thing would flow much more smoothly.
I loved the idea of blogging, video chatting, and just generally communicating with people in other areas of the world. This can teach SO MANY vital things to our students, and we can learn right along with them. This is an opportunity that I would have loved as a child and I cannot wait to try and integrate this into my instruction.

  1. Alysha,
I also had a hard time listening while trying to read and type at the same time. I found myself struggling to figure out what the "fish" were talking about and by the time I did figure it out, the subject changed again! Since it was our first experience with this activity, I do think that it would be easier in the future, but I still think that there would be some difficulty with it. I liked the point that was brought up in class that it would be a good lesson for students to learn that they physically cannot listen, read and type all at the same time. I think it is a good lesson that can be used to teach students HOW to do multiple things in a way that isn't so confusing.
