Second Day Morning Session Reflection

This far in the class I have been flooded with new idea after new idea of ways to incorporate technology in the classroom.  Because there have been so many new ideas, the SAMR model has been incredibly helpful for me to break down and recognize how technology used in the classroom reaches one of the levels in SAMR. This particular image is really helpful for me as a visual learner to see the ways technology inclusion progresses. I mentioned in my video reflection that all these new ideas will be easier for me to implement once I am in the classroom so that I have a new context for how students are in the class today since I am simply going off how I remember the class being when I was in high school.
I am really excited though for the possibilities with Google maps.  Geography is one of the EALRS for history in high school, so to use google maps with the coordinates and then have my students look that up and make connections is incredibly fun! One of the more exciting pieces though for a history class is the idea of connectivism through personal research papers.  This also includes a passion learning model.  My goal for my class is to have my students pick a history topic for a research paper and run with it for the semester.  I desire them to dive into different uses of scholars' work and beyond, and have them create a digital footprint by documenting their findings.  Through their own passion driven topics, students can connect ideas, people, and places through their research online.  They can then share all the exciting facts and knowledge nuggets with me and the rest of their peers and make further connections with their classmates.  Communication with each other throughout advice on which sites are better for research helps connect students to students, and students to the world of the internet.

  1. Alexandria, the SAMR visual you shared was my favorite as well. I also felt it represented the concepts in a clear way. I agree that being in our classrooms will definitely help better solidify how we will integrate these concepts of teaching with technology. I love your idea of letting your students choose a research topic and run with it for semester. I also plan to do something similar with my biology students.
