Is Twitter the New Curriculum??

I first made a twitter account in middle school and have never looked at it since. Twitter was always something I never understood; I thought it was just another social media platform to entrance the youth. My friends are addicted to twitter with its memes, and quotes and other things I never understood. I know Twitter as something Donald Trump uses to say things he probably shouldn't. I know Twitter as a place to share your feelings about a topic when you didn't want your grandmother to read about it on Facebook. However, now I know twitter as a great resource for teachers. Completely unaware of the benefits of Twitter, I figured it was something I would ignore. Little did I know I would be making another Twitter account in order to collaborate and hear the ideas of other teachers. The use of the hashtag has transformed the way teachers are using their curriculum. Instead of following the books, teachers are now able to turn to twitter and read innovative ideas from teachers across the country and even across the world. People are able to search ideas specific to their grade level, subject and even learning preferences. The internet is able to connect us to others in an instant, but I wonder how quickly one can get ideas from Twitter? How do you go about finding connections to other teachers? I look forward to exploring this new world of information! This article explains how to go about trying to network with other teachers on the twitter-sphere: Twitter for Teachers

  1. My experience is very similar to yours, Katelyn. I started a Twitter account and did not use it much, and only learned how to use it through a private account that I made recently. But I am excited to use it as a networking tool with teachers all over the world!
