A picture tells a thousand words

What do you see in the picture? We all see different ways and different perspectives on what we think is best for ourselves, family, and students. When we hold up a picture people will see the image differently because of their life experiences. Adding visual literacy involves students to talk about what they see, feel, and understand. This is one way to introduce a topic to get students talking about what they see and what others see can change their viewpoint. When learning, one remembers more when one sees an image connected with words or information, than with words and information alone. This statement made an impact on my thinking. I never thought of there being a connection, until today when making the collaborative notes and seeing the images next to the information. I want to create the visual community with images connected to information for all to learn about a topic and be able to make connections with others.
I made my comment to someone talking about images are being more powerful in remembering something over words. Although, words can be powerful in their meaning when we see an image we can make connection with our life experiences and create a memory. The writing went well with our visual literacy lesson.
