Changing the world, one lesson plan at a time!

A lesson plan I have would be asking a class identify a financial need within their school or community. Maybe a student in the school needs a new wheelchair or the park across the street needs a new set of swings after the windstorm blew trees down destroying them. Once the class identifies a need in the community, they will be directed to generate funds through a gofundme.com campaign. As a way of generating attention and desire to donate, students will be instructed to create a promotional video expressing why people should donate to their cause. Students will need to create a script, use persuasive techniques with the appropriate audience and support awareness through social media outlets. They will also need to research what item(s) and/or people they need to communicate with to ensure once funding is accomplished, the proper channels and procedures are followed to execute their desired goal.

This lesson plan, goes beyond the substitute method in several ways. Instead of asking students to simply write a persuasive essay, explaining why someone should donate to a worthy cause in their school or community. The lesson dives into the "Redefinition" category by asking students to discover the entire process of identifying community needs, motivating and persuading the public through multiple forms of communication and technology(writing, oral and visual), as well as, ensuring project completion through research, negotiation and management of project needs and expectations.
