Google the website that knows everything
Google can mean many things to many different people. To me it has always meant a web page where I can search any topic I need. I never knew that google was so much more complex than just a search engine. For instance, I never knew that if you clicked on the word tools you would be able to choose the dates that you would like your search to come within. I also never knew that by putting the word site: with a semicolon you are able to create a more direct search. An example of that is "climate change site:gov." which means that you are only searching for government research on climate change. This class as helped me to realize that google is a website of endless possibilities, and that I will never know all of the skills to use google. It has also taught me that google is a very helpful source for students to use in the classroom. Student's get many of their answers from google now, and we as teachers need to help children learn more than what google taught them.

Great takeaways, Ellen - especially your last sentence. If teachers hope to be relevant, they can't simply be dispensers of information. Have you thought of specific examples of how you might use Google as a launching point into some kind of lesson in your classroom? Thanks for your reflection!
