ISTE in the Classroom

As educators we have to embrace all aspects of education, and there is an ever increasing focus on including technology in every aspect of education. Students have so many more options and variety thanks to the rapid advances in educational and non-educational apps, through Skype, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram to share their thoughts and ideas. As differentiated instructors we have so many more ways of hearing student voice through these options. We no longer need to watch students hand-write assignments, or write book reports to show that they “read” their assignment. And, we can more easily meet the needs of our students with special needs through various pieces of technology,  all thanks to technology.

Through the ISTE standards we have a new role to take on in our classrooms. We are both a student and a teacher in this new world of education. In order to help student progress in skills they will need in the future we need to work on learning and mastering enough of the new technology arriving to pass along information to students; ones who will more than likely already have it covered faster than we can explain, but to also foster that knowledge and help them to keep moving forward. The biggest thing I have learned from this class: just keep moving forward!

  1. Great work on connecting using technology to provide a source of student voice. This would be helpful to capture what students are thinking when they might not want to speak out in class. What education apps do you plan to use in your classroom to show student voice?
