In regards to the ISTE, I am glad to have a set of standards to hold myself and my students to. I have always appreciated guidelines and these will encourage me to become more involved with technology and push myself out of my current comfort zone. Before this course I thought I was up to speed, but now I know I have a lot of things to learn about technology in the classroom and these standards can help guide my search for knowledge.

Let's Connect! And the ISTE...
The connectivism article was very interesting because I had not thought about how different learning is today compared to 10 years ago. EVERYONE is connected to some kind of device and through that device they are connected to millions of people. I now understand that knowing something today is not as important as knowing how to find good information from credible sources. Our country is living in a time of "alternative facts" and now more than ever it is important to understand how technology works. Technology and the power it holds can either be a used to access a great wealth of knowledge or to perpetuating ignorance.

It's important for students to understand the power of technology and how to properly use it for education purposes. Every student has access to a technological device, so allowing them to use their devices can benefit both them and the teacher.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of cultural immersion from across the globe. I have studied three different languages throughout my educational career but none of them have really "stuck". Having a pen pal or language buddy who is a native speaker may help this second language stick beyond classroom walls. Even my professors advised us to find a fluent speaker to converse with daily. One question I have is how will you create a global classroom experience that students feel safe and secure to make mistakes in? I love that students will also get a glimpse of the culture. Great ideas Sasha, wish I had this option back when I was learning languages.
