Teens, tweets, and teaching tools

Tweets and Twitter. I've never understood them. I feel like I truly gained some knowledge today about how to go about working on growing my educational knowledge. There are so many opportunities out there for me to learn, and that people are willing to donate too my future. I think that is what I took most out of today, as selfish as it sounds. There are people rooting for all of us that don't know us, people who are there to share a plethora of knowledge that we didn't even know that we wanted to know. I'm excited to dive a little deeper into this, seeing how easy it is to reach other teachers for even my own students. The comments4kids hashtag opens up a world of possibilities for my students, literally. If I continue to expand my network of teacher friends, I can instill the confidence in my students that their little piece is a part of something larger. I think education is about invoking social change, or at least a drive towards it in your students. Understanding that they are important is going to be such an important part in their individual growth. I can't wait to utilize an app that I don't understand and turn it into such a powerful tool of student development. Looking at the blogs I did today, I see why students enjoy using such a tool. It's safe, it's easy, and it's relevant. I want to have them see their piece, but more importantly I want them to gain social confidence in the process.

Also, check out some ways to play with google that I found through twitter. I'm already learning! http://www.controlaltachieve.com/2017/05/graphic-org-drawings.html

  1. I am with you with never really understanding the whole twitter thing, but wow it can really be used for more than finding out what celebrities are doing. The comments4kids hashtag was super cool, seeing a students work right there and being able to read it and comment was like the first step into the teaching world. I'm excited to start exploring more into the realm of technology, and who knows get a twitter myself.

  2. I love your idea of social confidence in a media sense! I have never thought about it like that before and it makes so much sense. I think sometimes my resistance to tweeter and new social media platforms is a lack of confidence in using it. Our kiddos are going to have a digital footprint so I think the idea of teaching them confidence in that area is such a smart thing to do! Thank you for your insight!
