Transform+Information=Transformation (SAMR)

I'm going to be teaching high school Spanish. I really want to use technology to coordinate with teachers from Mexico, Central or South America who are in the same timezone as my classes so that we can do some interviews and have real live interactions. Creating a relationship with native Spanish speakers will be a great way to engage the students and give them more motivation. I want the students here in the US to realize that they can communicate in real time with Spanish speakers all around the world. I think this experience will make students more interested in learning Spanish because they will be curious about the teenagers their age in another part of the world. They will want to know how to ask questions, express their opinions and make jokes in another language and they will discover it can be fun. I think that this experience is at the redefinition level of SAMR because without technology live interaction would not be possible and the excitement of the process would be lost as well as the learning that would come from making mistakes and being corrected real time.

  1. Sasha,
I can already tell that your classroom is going to be an amazing place to be! That's an incredibly useful -- not to mention super cool -- way to use tech. It's like using conversationexchange.com, but for your whole classroom! And I'm sure you'll end up with some great stories, too, in addition to all the things your students will learn.
