The
constant change of information has redefined technology. If information is
doubling every 18 months then as a teacher I believe it’s important for
students to understand how to gather information. It’s vital for students to
have technology available in the classrooms, so that they can become familiar
with the use of technology. Yes, many of the kids already use technology and most
likely know more than the teachers, but if they might not know how to properly
use it for technology. School has the opportunity to educate them of the
different outlets available, so that students can maximize the use of
technology for education. I believe that as a teacher I need to tailor their education
environment to fit their future and their future has a strong presence of technology.
The ISTE standards are great guidelines for teachers to use, but I don’t believe
should be required to meet. I think it’s great that the ISTE standards empowers
the students to think creatively. Applying ISTE would challenge students to
properly use technology for education purposes. I do think that classrooms
should progress and incorporate the use of technology more often.

Great thoughts. How do you plan on utilizing the ISTE standards in the classroom without requiring them? Thanks-
