Uses of SAMR Model in the Classroom

SAMR Model-

This model was fascinating to me as I never thought about how technology has changed which means that changes the way we use it in our classrooms. The videos that we watched in the class were great examples of what some examples were. One of the videos I watched was about a global book club where the students read the book and then were able to video chat with other children and teachers all over the world to ask questions and share their thoughts about the book they just read.

Something that I want to implement in my classroom is using a blog for the classroom. One of the common core standards talks about writing a letter and a narrative and I believe that some students shy away from these assignments because sometimes they want to share personal information but do not want their peers to know who wrote it. I believe that having a blog where students would be able to post their letters and narratives and then comment on other students writing. Having the students do it in a blog setting allows them to use their student voice and also allows them feel as though they could post whatever they wanted too. Just like the chat room we used in class today where it allows individuals to speak when they usually wouldn’t. This is only at the modification level because the outcome is still the same but the product is a bit different. To make it to the redefinition stage, I would make an international blog and connect them with a school somewhere in the world so that they could post their letters and narratives and receive feedback from other students from around the world. Without internet and computers/tablets this would not be able to work.

This model is so interesting to me and before today, I had no idea that there were so many benefits from using technology in the classroom! I learned so many different ways that I would like to use the SAMR model to implement technology in my classroom. It will take some time to get used to using the model and ensure that I am reaching redefinition but overtime, just like everything else, I know that this will be incredibly beneficial.

  1. I really like how you want to use a blog in the classroom. I think that a blog is such a fun and interesting way to have the students post their work and communicate through. Making it an international blog would be interesting to see the feedback you would get on the student's work. I think that teachers and other student's would have great feedback for your students from multiple perspectives. I love the idea you had for creating a blog.

  2. Wonderful example. The Starbucks SAMR image is a great touch. It really helps bring it home.
