We Learn through Images
Today in the second half of class we learned about the importance of images in teaching students. Research shows that if you hear something, you only retain about 10% of the information. On the other hand, if you see an image associated with information, you are likely to remember around 65% of the information. This fact alone should motivate us as teachers to incorporate a significant amount of media into our everyday lessons. It is crucial to stay up to date on what is popular among your students social media wise because if you are so connected from the world that they live in, it will be much more difficult for us as teachers to form a meaningful relationship with that student. I really like the idea of using #comments4kids in my classroom. I think the joy and satisfaction a student can receive through having other educators comment on a post they created can boost their self-confidence immensely. Using twitter and other social media as a way to stay connected to the education community helps me feel like I have support and resources at my fingertips. These avenues are important to use and share with colleagues.
