Making the connection and funding continuing education
The ISTE standards are a lighthouse for educators to stay current and consistent with their use of technology in the classroom. Standards help keep educators engaged and excited about our profession. Connectivism encourages us as teachers to help our students make connections between information from multiple sources. If sources of information were stations on a monorail, connectivism refers to the creation of routes in between each space. The ISTE standards help us figure out the framework for building those tracks.
Having strong standards for technology in education helps bring education to a level of consistency despite length of time teaching and location within the United States. One of my concerns is that the levels of funding are not consistent across the board to help teachers follow the standards. As educators, we must drive our districts to fully fund continuing education.
