Let Authenticity Lead the Way

Meet the students where they are at. As educators we need to let go of what we are used to, our past experiences, and simply be present and aware of the technological age we live in today. The students are more adept to using any and all forms of technology; Google, social media, Wikipedia, and YouTube for learning beyond what most of us grew up with. Let us learn from our students and take advantage of the positives in technology and the infinite amount of resources available for all of us. As educators who grew up learning in various ages, we need to be adaptable and be receptive to changes so our students can create, lead, find their voice, and be themselves in an ever changing world. Let us not be so rigid in our ideals for the future of education but ride the wave of possibility and the unknown. It can be a beautiful thing, technology and education, if educators can get out of the way, even a little, and let the authenticity of each student contribute to the global online community. We got this.

  1. This is so good, Kimmi! I think you lead us to the fact that not every teacher is comfortable with technology, or maybe they feel as if the cons outweigh the pros. This is a good reminder that we need to meet students where they are, and most will be from a media centered, technology minded environment. Even if we do not agree with this, we need to be willing to push our opinions to the side to allow students to benefit from the many amazing learning tools available to us.

  2. Nice job Kimmi! I really like the optimism of your post and focussing on what a positive tool technology can be. I also, really enjoyed what you said about learning from the students, and allowing the authenticity of the student lead the way. Great post, thanks for sharing.
