Mind epically blown!

First of all, I just want to highlight on my assumptions coming into the class. I was a little hesitant and thinking I know how to use the internet, what are we going to possibly learn so much about in 7 hours. I was completely BLOWN away within the first 5 minutes!!! There was so much more to technology in the classroom I had not ever thought about or had complete misconceptions about!!

The points that were brought up following the 5 minutes, were insightful and made me ponder tons about how I would use technology in the classroom. Even more than that, though, it made me really think about what technology means for the students in my classroom today.

It really is interesting to think that we as teachers would limit our students from learning with technology and using them in an appropriate efficient manner when we do it ourselves all the time. This made me especially reflective about my own long-term teaching position for about 9 months. I know I used technology to do research about topics that were relevant to the curriculum, but also engaging for the students. That being said, I was not aware of the trick to type in the subject site: gov/ etc. Had I known that, I could have actually taught my students how to do proper research and find information. This in turns teaches them to know how to use their technology beyond just social reasons, but also educational reasons with fun.

Finally, the topic that made me really go WHHHHHAAATTT???!!!! was about Wikipedia.

I told my students always it was okay to go to wikipedia, but to fact check them. I had NO IDEA about the grade scale on wikipedia so that students can actually use wikipedia with confidence. Additionally, the wikipedia pages that are just starting and begging for more information is a great opportunity for students to be engaged in a topic and be experts themselves!

Overall, I am LOVING this class!!!!

  1. Okay seriously I love the first picture you used, it cracks me up and made me wanna read what you wrote. What did you think of all the resources he's given us to integrate technology to go along with what we're learning? Also, I totally agree that the grade scale Wikipedia uses is mind blowing. I had no idea that it was so thorough.

  2. Dude, I've gone my whole education career being told that Wikipedia wasn't legitimate. WHAT THE ACTUAL HECK???? Wikipedia has a grading scale. .. . . It tells you if it's a legitimate page! I can't, I feel so lied too. I like that you talked specifically about what blew your mind. The biggest one for me was Control F and using a google doc to take class notes.
