Internal Screaming- Tech and Kids

Technology and kids. Technology in classrooms.
Holy shit. Like actually what the hell?

I'm honestly struggling to wrap my mind around what technology is going to look like in my classroom.

There's so much, there's just so much information to take in. I've had internet in my life before we came to the states. There is legitimately not a time in my life when I haven't used a computer, but my students will never have the experience I did. Why you ask? Because they will be the wireless generation.

My students will not have experienced dial up, they are growing up in a time without house phones, and without Ethernet cords. They are wireless. This tiny little thing knows more about my phone than I do. She will be connected with her friends via a phone one day.

My biggest take away is that kids today are connected to their friends through their technology.

Lets say that again: KIDS TODAY ARE CONNECTED TO THEIR FRIENDS THROUGH THEIR TECHNOLOGY!!!!

They don't have the time to hang out, they are doing to much, they're too busy. So as a teacher if I remove the phone, I'm cutting of the friendships and I'm sending their minds into crisis mode and I've lost them.

So how do I incorporate technology into my classroom and allowing them to both have their phones, but also be on target?

So overall I think it's time to embrace technology more than I already have, so that I can safely and accurately teach my kids how to use the technology in their lives to learn.

  1. I appreciate what you said about engaging further in technology in order to understand more what students are going through! I think being careful about our level of engagement is important, however, it gets harder to control our social media presence the more we have and it could easily spiral out of control. I think your use of media images is really good as well, and matches what you are talking about!

    1. I agree with you about your comment about our social media presence. It's so easy to loose control. Especially if you're a young teen, when you don't really grasp how far everything actually goes.
