Visu-ALL Learners

The second half of class, we talked a lot about what it means to be a 'media generation' and live a public life before a private one. Post Millennials, or the Delta generation, has not known a time before the internet. This creates a lot digital fluency, or some refer to these as 'Digital Natives.' As teachers, we have a responsibility and opportunity to engage with this video-centric generation and allow all students to engage with their visual learning capabilities.

When our brains acknowledge an image, it gives our brain a 65% chance to remember it. That is powerful. While this Delta generation looks much different than any generation previous, the capabilities that come along with being fluent with technology at such an earlier age will reap an enormous amount of benefits. The challenge for teachers is this: How can we use technology in a way that will not only educate our students, but change the world? It will come to a point, if it has not already, where we as teachers are doing a disservice to our students by not pushing the boundary of technology in the classroom.

For example (collaborative learning using blog posts):

  1. First of all, well done with the pun in the title. Second, I love the end of your first paragraph I think we do have to meet the kids where they are at, and using visuals is a good way to do that.
