I believe that technology is one of the most effective ways to reach our students, we simply have to teach them how to use it responsibly. I cannot count the number of times my high school teachers reprimanded my peers and I for using or wanting to use Wikipedia as a place to begin looking for information. I am certain that my teachers were not aware of how to use Wikipedia as a tool, they rather saw it as the enemy or as a source of plagiarism. Interestingly though, teachers across the country are permitting the use of outdated textbooks, this has to change. Implementing technology in the classroom not only allows us to reach our students, but it makes all educators better creators of learning experiences.

Hello, Jessica! What an eye-catching title. It sparked my interest. I understand your progression of technology as a student as I went through something similar. The growth of technology within the last two decades has changed dramatically, shifting the landscape and our view and perception of using technology and reducing its size, like with the USB drive. And again, you are right: The need to effectively use technology inside the classroom is fundamental, especially with the new developing job markets that has grown exponentially. The demand that students learn this technology is instrumental for them succeed. This is new territory, and it's an exciting experience to delve into. Lastly, Wikipedia is are new encyclopedia; we must mine it for all its worth. It is still fascinating how we can collect great sources when we click on "talk" and the scan the rubric for the classification of sources. Do you plan to use Wikipedia for your classroom?
ReplyDeleteBrynden,
ReplyDeleteWikipedia is definitely a source I would like to incorporate in my classroom.
