Wikipedia isn't as bad as my teachers say it is

The first half of day one class was so interesting.  It's fun to have preconceived thoughts challenged.  I've been told and have always believed that Wikipedia is a website that is full of errors, a website that is void of credible thought and that using this site is similar to getting information from my crazy neighbor who talks to his cat.  However, not all wikipedia pages are the same.   We learned a great way of how we can double check the quality scale of the article, which is an extremely useful tool to use in my own research and I will be able to share this with my students in the future.

  1. I think that the collective work of countless people around the world collaborating to create a complete online encyclopedia is incredible! I believe the main reason our past teachers discouraged us from using Wikipedia before is that we may not have had the skillset required to debunk false information or go further into research to prove that the article is correct with supporting evidence. Now that we have the skills to determine good-quality information, I think that Wikipedia can be a reliable source for us as educators, and our future students!
