Oh yeah, that lede was a stretch... But let's move on! I really was moved today about what we learned about Wikipedia. I really think that is an amazing tool to utilize in so many different channels, and as someone who is going into the Social Studies field, I need to do whatever I can to get these kids interested in history. Being in a 7th grade classroom I have the privilege to guide these students in how to be researchers and think critically. This is a huge way to put it into action. This is a quick way to examine and interpret credibility without having to force the students to "just trust me that this is credible."
Also how cool would it be for students to go in and add to Washington State history themselves by adding to a local page by viewing the start/stub section! I think that is a really interesting assessment tool that makes students add to their online presence! I really enjoy this as not only a contribution to my student's education, but also to the betterment of the state I grew up in and love so much. Awesome stuff to learn!
Side bar: How cool was that example of Pete Carroll versus Russell Wilson! I loved that analogy of how we should treat our classrooms. What drove that home for me was removing that ominous leader role from how we teach to how we are leaders of the offense trying to guide the team down the field. We have the playbook and we get to audible at the line. Sure we might get sacked or lose yardage, but in the end success is measured by whether or not we score that touchdown. (Just watch out for Malcolm Butler in the Red Zone!)
And finally... I loved this point today.
I also enjoyed the analogy with Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson. We are the ones who drive the class and have to make the plays. We have to give students the tools to learn and be able to adjust. I'm not sure why you had to throw that picture in there though brought back some haunting memories.
