In some ways music
already uses technology on a modification level. The advancements in recording
technology redefined how music ensembles rehearse. Conductors can record
ensembles during rehearsals, and with recording technology on a phone, or
microphones installed in the band room itself, and then immediately after the
group finishes the piece the recording can be played back. The ensemble can
then hear the song from the audience perspective and critically think about what
they did well, and what they may need to change. Way before recording
technology existed, ensembles wouldn’t have been able to do that. Also, as
recording technology has improved and advanced, it’s become more equitable for
ensemble groups everywhere and at higher and higher play back quality.
A
different way I could use technology on a modifying level in my classroom is
based off the video I watched about a middle school art program. In this art
program, the students created a blog to post, interact, and critique with each
other’s art. These students also put together an excel document of critique
sentence starters and topics to help each other provide insightful responses. I
could establish a similar method of engagement in the class where students could
develop critique language and note during class things the hear in the rest of
band and post their reflections on rehearsal to some sort of group chat.
Students could also comment on other students’ blog posts.

Very interesting!! What is your experience with this technology? Is this sort of equipment readily available in schools? Great thinking of combining music with technology in that way.
ReplyDeleteGreat examples of how technology could be used in all subjects and all grade levels! Great blog Jessica!
