Knowledge Economy in the Classroom

One of the most impactful things I took away from this morning's class was the concept of the Knowledge Economy. As defined in class, this economy is where growth depends on quantity, quality, and accessibility of the information that's available. This has become even more important as we recover from the Covid-19 pandemic and start to return to lives with fewer restrictions. The way we as teachers approach education has changed forever because of the pandemic. It's asked us to make our content, lessons, and interactions with students more accessible, creative, and engaging. While we can say that education did this before the pandemic, it's flipped everything in our world upside down.

Being able to access students where they are and how they learn is vital to our jobs as teachers. The explosion of technology use in education since March 2020 shows how we should be center our students' learning needs as we teach. When they can Google anything, have access to more information in a single newspaper (let alone electronic device) than some people had in the nineteenth century,  and can build their own brands, we can't underestimate their capabilities with technology in education. If we adapt the tools to suit their needs and give them student-friendly interfaces, there's no telling where their bright futures will take them.
