To Infinity and Beyond

When thinking about the future of education, there is no limit. The future of education is literally, to infinity and beyond. Technology is changing the way we think, feel, eat, and even how we sleep. There is literally an app for everything. The best thing to do as an educator is flow with the changes and don't try to stop it, because the minute that you do, you may be putting students at risk of falling behind.

I think the future of education is going to make a shift from learning content to learning skills that can help you understand the content being provided. The future of the education system will revolve around providing students with the necessary skills to create their own knowledge. There will be no more cognitivism, behaviorism, or constructivism, because those theories are extremely out of date with how society is now. There was not technology back then, and now there is nothing in this world that you can do without technology. It was brought up in the Siemens article that learning theories may need to be altered or adjusted because of technology. I believe that eventually there is going to be whole new set of learning theories being studied. I believe that the originals have a lot of good content that will be pulled from, however, there are to many brilliant people out there, that I find it impossible that there will not be new theories being developed...I'm pretty sure there already are.

In the articles, it was discussed how technology is rewiring our brains, and that may be the most important thing for an educator to know. Students don't have the capacity to remember or memorize, they don't have to. Why should they? Students have access to everything at their fingertips, why are wasting time trying to hammer in trigonometry, when they can just google what they want to know. Honestly, I think education may become more vocational training. Which is crazy to think about, because about 10 years ago, people who did vocational training were told that they would never amount to anything (my timeline may be off, but I know it was frowned upon at some point).

There is no limit to education at this point. In the education realm, COVID needed to happen. We had to get out of the old mindset and adapt to the changes technology has given us. The shutdowns forced us to do that. I am excited to see where education goes. Am I nervous? Yep. But, I think that's a good thing!
