In general I think my perception of Wikipedia has changed pretty drastically, becoming much more reliable in my mind than previously thought. I’ve become inherently skeptical for anything that isn’t a written research article the last couple years. Almost everything should be taken with a grain of salt because even if something was written with the most cutting edge information available, at best that information could become outdated eventually.
I’m really interested in the rating system behind wikipedia. I think that kind of rating system should be much more common. No matter where your information comes from, there will be some bias and some mistakes. Professional science works pretty hard to eliminate as much bias and misinformation as possible, but its very difficult to do.
In general, I would much rather have some kind of idea how reliable the information I consume will be. I can’t expect the rating system to be perfect any more than I should expect anything else to be. Still, the acknowledgment of potential problems is vastly better than pretending any piece of information is error free.
