Media and Social Media Literacy is an important concept for us all to learn, particularly young adults who are still maturing and discovering how the world really works. It seems to make sense that in the Internet age we all want to know how to use media effectively and appropriately and we want our children or students to do the same. This makes sense for our Junior High and Senior High teenagers with their Tik Tok challenges and Instagram Influencers. What about our adolescents and toddlers. My six-year-old son and nine-year-old daughter both already know how to look up their favorite videos on YouTube (that they have favorite videos on YouTube is scary enough) and they both do on-line gaming with my 11-year-old son. This statement highlights the need for us to be teaching media literacy to even our elementary children. It's no longer a matter of if they will encounter and interact with media or social media, it's just a matter of when they will encounter something that doesn't make sense to them and how they interact and interpret it. The article attached below discusses the need for the subject I have brought up. It also discusses strategies on how to "pair" this concept down in a way that young ones can still grapple with the concepts.

As teachers we have a lot to worry about already so these resources are great. I have also attached a YouTube video that breaks these concepts down pretty well for elementary age students.
