Social media can prove to be beneficial or detrimental to any individual depending on how it they use it. Teachers can use social media to connect with others to gain ideas and insight from other teachers for any questions or struggles they may be having in their own classroom. It allows for teachers to connect with anyone in the world who uses the internet, which means there are millions of opinions and answers for whatever a teacher may need help within their classroom. If social media is used in this manner, it can be very useful for teachers. However, if social media is not used correctly, it may prove to be not so helpful. It's important to understand the do's and don'ts of incorporating social media into your curriculum. It can be a great way for the students to connect with each other outside of the classroom, or it can be harmful for students with the emergence of cyber bullying and other problems of the sorts. Should Teachers and Students Connect on Social Media? (uopeople.edu)
Hi Isaiah! I am also intrigued by the idea of social media in the classroom. Growing up as essentially the first generation to truly utilize social media in secondary school, I feel like we have seen all the negatives it has brought to our peers. Now that kids have access to social media at a younger age, they do not quite know for sure how to properly use it in a positive way. If you were to have a class instagram that focused on a certain topic, you could have kids reflect on lectures unanimously and in a way that you could manage. This can be a way to teach your students how to properly use social media in a positive way, as well as assessing their understanding of the topic. Just my thoughts!
