Yes! I love this! I love seeing the shift from product to process based learning. Having students become the creators of their own educational resources empowers their learning and makes their creations accessible to other learners. What a fun way to let parents and other stakeholders know the kind of learning happening in class. This is also a great way to improve upon their technological literacy. ReplyDeleteYoutube was one of the first applications that I saw huge value in for education. Before I was in this program, I used SciShow and CrashCourse often in my health training courses! It can be a really effective tool for building engagement, saving time, and having positive memories associated with the learning.
That is all before the concept of a class youtube channel! I think that there is a definite space for an class-focused youtube channel, and it could even have the potential for year-by-year reflection and growth! Students could see the work done by previous years, and build on top of it!

Yes...you can find these all over youtube and I couldn't agree more. There is also a motivational factor when kids know they are creating content for YouTube. I routinely have teachers tell me what students produce for YouTube is far better than what they produce for "just the teacher" There is so many skills that go into making videos that it really lens itself to an integrated approach in the elementary classroom.
