  1. Yes! It is essential to keep in mind the importance of all these positive guidelines and reinforcements for students. The balance of connecting through technology and connecting face-to-face is crucial to the social and emotional wellbeing of both students and teachers. In my personal experience as a substitute teacher, and from what I have heard from a handful of others in the classroom, many students are experiencing digital fatigue. When COVID forced students to be on screen constantly, it seems that some of the magic of technology went away in students' minds. So, now that the pandemic has subsided and we still have access to these digital tools, it is our responsibility as educators to notice how our students are learning best and to create this healthy balance.

    1. I would also argue it's not just digital fatigue. It is the constant low level use of technology in our classrooms. When we constantly are using technology as a Substation and Augmentation level..that's where fatigue and frustration set it because students know we could be doing more. We could be doing things different. The number of essays students have to write has not changed much from my era to now. Yet we have powerful tools that should allow us to assess in other ways...more authentic ways. Technology fatigue was a thing before COVID and honestly I think it's our low level use of technology along with using technology to replace things it never should have done...like PDFing textbooks and telling students not to use Wikipedia...knowing the rest of the world does. We have an opportunity with ChatGPT to engage students in understanding and using technology to learn, grow and create. Exciting times ahead!
