Click, click Boom!

I am amazed at how just a little bit of knowledge and a few clicks of the mouse has completely changed my behavior when searching the web.  I think about how the tools we learned in class, with regard to Google search and Wikipedia would have saved me a lot of time and frustration over the years.  I feel inspired to bring those tools into my classroom and excited to enlighten my kiddos.  Of course, I also consider the fact that my future students will likely be far more tech savvy than I, and teach me a few things.  Nonetheless, I am looking forward to where these tools can take my lesson plans and engage students.

For years I have viewed Wikipedia as an unreliable source, but today that all changed.  I even took a step back to ask myself why I was so quick to discard Wikipedia and trust the content of other sites without question.  Learning how to check the validity of Wikipedia’s content was a big “ah-ha” moment and good lesson on accountability.  I can use this tool as a teachable moment and encourage my students to think critically and dive deeper into their work and online interactions.  I am excited to learn more!
