I see the connectivism theory as a solid mentality for approaching learning. Asking students to do more than repeat back the information given to them is a true necessity for real learning. Whether you're an adult or a student, everyone wants real purpose behind their learning. That purpose may be different for each person, but painting a bigger picture and relating material to real world situations will always help motivate students. By creating curiosity in students, you will direct their learning in a more productive manner, while generating better learning habits for each learner.

The ISTE standards for Students and Teachers, seem to be aligned with the connectivism theory. The real challenge will be integrating these standards into established school systems who may not have the budget for technology or right mentality to embrace this approach with students. I see it as a slow process over the next 5-10 years. The key will be persistence and continued effort for this change in education.
