Can you take it to the next level?

When one thinks about students today and how much students need to learn, we as teachers, need to keep them exploring the all possibilities and avenues to take. Taken from the morning session I learned about the standards teachers should work towards and the guidelines for students when it comes to working with technology. Now I can take those standards and bring them into the classroom to help incorporate the SAMR Model, focusing on the modification and the redefinition.

I look forward to taking lessons to the next level by incorporating modifications.  I want to be able to allow students to create discussion between groups in one document. This would allow students to collectively read through other group notes and not just have the discussion that went on in their group. I think this would have been great during our morning discussion about the ISTE standards and Connectivism theory. I would have like to have read what the other groups discussed.

From making modifications in lessons I hope I can create opportunities of redefinition. Making connection with teachers or citizens that have experienced or have a different perspective would be a great addition to any classroom. I was able to experience a modification when I was in elementary school when my class did a unit on Mt. Everest. As a class, we were able to talk to people climbing the mountain via e-mail. For this time, it redefined the lesson and the experience has stuck with me.

Since students and our world creates new technology, as teachers, we need to continue to learn and provide students the opportunity to use technology in the classroom. Not only do students stay more on task they are more involved in the lesson.

  2. Emailing mountaineers while they scale Mt. Everest is exactly the king of experience that we have talked about this summer. You've just demonstrated how successfully integrating technology into the classroom can give students that great, meaningful experience that they will remember for years to come. I hope that we can all find clever ways to scaffold learning and engage our students in new ways.
