Keeping up with the Standards

ISTE creates guidelines for teachers and students to understand, explore, experience, create, and make goals to achieve using technology or media. When the standards came on the screen it looked like common core standards, except these are the standards we need to help students navigate technology. I like that ISTE gives standards for both educators and students. The standards help guide one another for growth and understanding. I believe the standards push each other to further their learning and create, problem solve or get a new perspective of ideas or issues both locally and globally working with technology. These standards will help guide my students in the classroom to gain more knowledge and to see what their own potential is, when using technology.

A new theory captures the idea that humans have the knowledge and use their knowledge to create ideas within themselves (Siemens, 2004). The ideas and knowledge do not come from outside environment sources (Siemens, 2004). Knowing that the technology is messy and there are many avenues to get around ideas this theory I believe has the thought that individuals are able to make sense of the ever-changing technology and give input into what they know and understand.

As a group, we discussed how that as time continues to change and new technology comes out, we can look at the past for understanding.  As teachers, we can use the new technology to look at past, present, and problem solve for the future. We are all learners and need to continue to learn new ways to solve problems using technology.  The ITSE gave standards to help teachers to remember what we should provide for students to continue to understand the growing world around technology.
