Blogs and Instagram and Twitter, oh my!

In thinking about using social media in the classroom, I feel like a whole new door has been opened for me! Personally, I created a Facebook account my senior year in high school in hopes of staying connected with my friends after high school. Today I am using Facebook to round up those same friends to plan a class reunion.

Over the years, I have created a personal Instagram account and Twitter account which I have used sparingly. However, never once has it crossed my mind that I could use these social media platforms as a cutting edge way to increase student involvement in the classroom. Today, we learned some pretty cool ways that we can leverage these platforms in working with our students.

As a future elementary school teacher, the idea of using a blog in the classroom is super exciting! I think that even very young students could get excited about publishing their work on a blog for the world to see. I also feel that this is a neat way for parents to check-in and feel connected to the work happening in the classroom. I also learned that #comments4kids can be used to share students' work and allow others to comment on their blog posts. I was able to use this method to comment on a student's work here: https://mrmurphysclass.100wc.net/a-strange-portal-for-ghosts/comment-page-1/?cws_acc=1531777553&caught_as=moderation#comment-caught

In short, I know that I have much more to learn about blogging and social media in the classroom and I cannot wait to get into the classroom to take some of these new ideas out for a spin!

  1. Kadie, the title of your blog captured my attention and sums up my feelings as well. Oh my! There are so many platforms to help involve our student and keep them excited about learning. It is great we are being given these tools to use.

    1. Thank you Debbie! For me, it is exciting and overwhelming all at the same time. I am excited to learn more about how we can use technology with students and then to be able to apply these skills as future teachers in the classroom!
