Chaos, Chaos Everywhere

We need to accept that we are going to have to incorporate technology better, otherwise we are actually harming them. They need to use tech in their lives outside of school, and if we aren't teaching it to them we are doing them a HUGE disservice.

And another large aspect about our technology driven kids, is understanding that they learn through chaos and discovery, not process and procedure. Let me say that again:

KIDS LEARN THROUGH CHAOS AND DISCOVERY

We have to know that what a chaotic classroom looks like, vs. what an out of control classroom looks like. Our classrooms are not going to look how they looked when we were kids. We need to let our kids embrace the technology in our classroom, and let them explore it. It isn't going to be neat, and orderly, that's simply not the way our kids are going to learn.  It's time to embrace the change. Accept that chaos, and know that it doesn't mean that they aren't learning, instead it means that they are.

Good luck future teachers, lets make the idea of redefinition a reality.

  1. OMG! "Kids aren't resistant to technology, but rather they are resistant to using technology in a stupid way." I love this sentence. There is something so valid here. AND CHAOS. How do we make our classrooms chaotic instead of sterile and confined. I like the idea of making it active and fun and lively and allowing their learning to EXPLODE!! Learning should be messy.

  2. I have had to learn how not to use technology in stupid ways. The fact that these kids have grown up with technology all their lives is something that I will have to get use to. I love your point about teachers having to learn to incorporate technology better, it resonates with all of the smartboards I have seen throughout highschool. It will be interesting to see how modern learners learn and discover through their own explorations, rather than the funnel of information I received in a few choice classes.
