Connectivism Doesn't Have a Finish Line

We all want to bring technology in to the classroom. Technology is such an integral part of our students' lives, so why do we tear them away from it? This idea of connectivism has encouraged teachers who were against or hesitant towards technology in the classroom to start integrating it into lessons, and this concept has taken education by storm. People are using apps, tablets, and websites specifically made for their classroom to get students more involved- and its working!! Many teachers, however, are viewing their use of technology in the classroom as a "one-and-done" situation. They can check the box off and move on with their teaching. That approach doesn't benefit the students in the long run, and that teacher is not transforming their teaching. The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) shares some indicators and standards for teachers when it comes to using technology in the classroom. You can see them on their website here https://www.iste.org/standards/for-educators. The first, and arguably most important characteristic is that teachers should be life long learners when it comes to technology. Since technology is constantly and rapidly changing, we as teachers need to do our best to stay informed about technological advances in our field! The technology you utilize in the classroom could be relevant one moment and ancient history the next, so continuing to use the same technology doesn't necessarily make you a teacher who has integrated technology in the classroom. It is a continual process, with no finish line.
