Pragmatics
at a Modification level
My subject area is to teach
ELLs and having experience in how challenging learning a new language can be,
so, I intend to implement pragmatics usage in my future students reading and
writing. Hence a lesson that would be very relevant to my teaching philosophy
would be to facilitate Etiquettes and guidelines in composing an email. To facilitate this idea in the classroom
using technology, students will use a computer and the internet to surf for
online articles that discuss e-mail etiquettes and guidelines on how to write
to a friend, family member, and a superior.
After taking the
technology class, a modified level of the above lesson will be to provide
guidelines and a time frame for students to surf for videos on the internet
using any app of their choice to collect information. After students have
surfed for necessary information on email etiquettes, they will then create a Twitter
post based on their understanding discussing their top ten ideas for email
etiquettes.
The Email Etiquette
lesson is at the modification level of the SAMR model because the lesson
improved from its original state which was to use technology to read articles
that talks about email etiquettes. At the modification level, the experience
again moved from merely reading an article to watching a video that talks about
the same idea but this time, there were visual aids to aid in understanding.
The lesson also went a step further for students to demonstrate their knowledge
by contributing to society through a twitter post that describes theirs to ten
email etiquettes.
