Most teachers hate the idea of cell phones in their classroom. In reality most students are going to have them and look at them often. As teachers I believe we should have some instances where students we use these devices in the classroom. Having students use twitter/instagram as a place to do assignments or post videos could be beneficial for both you as a teacher and your students.
I could even use social media in a P.E. setting. I could have students do a homework assignment where they have to use instagram. The students could be given a task where they have to do some sort of physical activity outside of the classroom. The students could then take a video of them doing this activity and post it to the instagram page before the next class.
I love this! Kids love to show off and they love competition! Winner gets featured on the class Instagram? Also having them create "training" videos? I'm so here for all of this.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to ideas you end up incorporating.
I would have enjoyed some of my P.E. classes so much more throughout primary and secondary education if my teachers would have incorporated technology and social media in this way. This is an awesome idea, Derek! I agree with Whitney; I am here for all of this as well!
ReplyDeleteDerek, this is sweet! I would have never thought of videos for assessing students for P.E. Most smart phones now track simple health data like steps taken and distance traveled! It would be cool to try and incorporate those metrics into a course too! As a person who didn't love P.E. in school, tech would have made me really enjoy it more! Super cool stuff.
