Technology and Change

Where was all of this information when I was in school before?!? The different ways to research and refine is amazing! The problem is that this will probably change. It is all constantly changing. I imagine the basic things like some of the search hacks for Google will still be applicable but other than that...how on earth does anyone ever keep up with this?

How can I teach what I barely understand? This is a huge wake up call for me to start paying more attention to all the tech and to try and keep up with everything going on. It is important. It is the future. I must know it so that I can share more ways to use the internet than just social media. I need to be able to show them how to use the internet in a responsible manner. Look at different angles of the same story. Take a look at the world narrative and not just a singular view that meshes with what you already believe.

  1. Heather,
I totally agree with you about how overwhelming some of this is, and I especially appreciate your comment about how it will probably all change in the next few years. I was in high school three years ago, and I considered myself to be relatively technologically savvy, yet I knew none of this. While some of that may have been caused by my teachers not knowing or informing me, I think that some of it was because it didn't exist or at least wasn't used in such a significant way. My brother who is three years younger than me had a such different educational experience than me. So I love your honest questioning of how do we, as teachers, keep up with the ever changing technology? While also juggling the every changing state tests, standards, curriculum, etc. One thing that I am excited about is that we are getting all of this information now, before we become "real" teachers. I hope that over the course of this year, I will have time to learn more and try more, so that once I get my own classroom I will be better prepared and experienced so that I can use technology effectively and successfully.
